Music For The Hearing Impaired

“There are many benefits of learning an instrument, even if the person is hearing impaired or completely deaf. I have had both as students and both have been successful at their instrument!

“For students that have hearing loss there have been multiple studies that prove that learning an instrument can actually help improve hearing. It trains the brain to detect, process and remember sounds. Nerves in the brains of musicians responded more clearly and precisely than non-musicians. By learning to play an instrument a person can develop auditory skills that improve the ability to hear sound and speech.

“Even for those who are completely deaf, rhythm through touch and feel can be an amazing experience! Although the actual sounds of the instrument might not be heard in the traditional sense learning can still be therapeutic, stimulating and meaningful.” – Mary Bellah, JT Musical Arts
